TGD Spring 2025
March 28 (8am) - March 30 (6pm)

Tennessee Game Days is a board game convention held twice a year near Nashville, TN. It attracts folks from near and far to play all manner of board and card games. There are a few organized events and always lots of people setting up games (many borrowed from the convention library) and responding to the "Players Needed" or "Teacher Needed" signs.

Throughout each weekend, we also try to do some good while having fun by raising funds for charities -- like Second Harvest Food Bank and the Monroe Carrell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.

More about Tennessee Game Days

What types of games are played?

The convention is focused on open gaming, so the easy answer is any game that you can find an opponent to play with you. That being said, the attendees of our event typically play family strategy games (Eurogames). These last about an hour or two, feature decision making throughout the game, and usually focus on player interactions over player elimination -- games like Catan or Power Grid. In addition to these games, modern conflict oriented games are also usually well represented -- games like History of the World, Memoir '44, or Twilight Imperium. What you won't see much of are miniatures games, like Warhammer, table top roleplaying games, like Dungeons & Dragons, or collectible card games, like Magic: the Gathering - if your gaming tastes are focused predominately in those areas, this probably won't be the most fruitful event to attend.

Can I come alone?

The short answer is absolutely. While lots of people do come with friends (many of whom met for the first time at TGD years before), the vast majority are friendly and open to a new player joining their table. People are very willing to teach -- they want to play games after all! "Players Needed" signs are always sprinkled around the room to help you spot a game with an open seat. You can hop onto our Discord or BGG guild to organize a game beforehand. The convention will also feature organized teaching events that are a great place to get a guaranteed spot at a game and meet new people. Hanging out in the library and striking up a conversation with someone holding a game you love is a great way to get yourself into a game. You know yourself best, you have to be comfortable putting yourself out there a little. But if you do, you'll be rewarded with a great weekend!
